Something About T2 DC Surge Protection Device (DC SPD)

DC Surge Protection Device ( DC SPD) is designed to limit transient over voltages of atmospheric origin and divert current waves to earth, so as to limit the amplitude of this over voltage to a value that is not hazardous for the electrical installation and electric switchgear.

Type 2 DC Surge Protection Device ( DC SPD): The Type 2 DC Surge Protection Device ( DC SPD) is the main protection system for all low voltage electrical installations. Installed in each electrical switchboard, it prevents the spread of over voltages in the electrical installations and protects the load.

Nominal Voltage (Un): The nominal voltage stands for the nominal voltage of the system to be protected

Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage (Uc): The maximum continuous operating voltage is the r.m.s value of the maximum voltage which may be connected to corresponding terminals of the Surge Protection Device (SPD) during operations.

Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage for PV System (Ucpv): The maximum continuous operating voltage for Photovoltaic (PC) system is the value of the maximum DC voltage which may be permanently applied to terminals of Surge Protection Device (SPD).

Voltage Protection Level (Up): The Voltage Protection Level is the maximum instantaneous value of the voltage at terminals of Surge Protection Device (SPD).

Nominal Discharge Current (In): The nominal discharge current is the peak value of the current that can be passed through Surge Protection Device (SPD) having a wave shape of 8/20 µs.

Maximum Discharge Current (Imax): The maximum discharge current is the peak value of the current which the device can safely discharge through the SPD having a wave shape of 8/20 µs.

Overvoltage may occur in electrical installations for various reasons. It may be caused by: 1. The distribution network as a result of lightning or any work carried out. 2. Lightning strikes (nearby or on buildings and PV installations, or on lightning conductors). 3. Variations in the electrical field due to lightning. Like all outdoor structures, […]

Features of surge protective decives

Surge protective decives, also known as lightning arresters, are electronic device that provide safety protection for various electronic equipment, instrumentation, and communication lines. When a surge current or voltage is suddenly generated in an electrical circuit or communication lines due to external interference, thesurge protective decives can conduct the shunt in a very short period of […]

The difference between DC fuse and AC fuse

The difference between DC fuse and AC fuse

There are three differences between a DC fuse and an AC fuse (1) In the case of DC transmission, ac systems on both sides do not need to run synchronously, while AC transmission must run synchronously. When ac power is transmitted over a long distance, the phase difference between the two ends of the ac power transmission […]
