Something About T2 DC Surge Protection Device (DC SPD)

DC Surge Protection Device ( DC SPD) is designed to limit transient over voltages of atmospheric origin and divert current waves to earth, so as to limit the amplitude of this over voltage to a value that is not hazardous for the electrical installation and electric switchgear.

Type 2 DC Surge Protection Device ( DC SPD): The Type 2 DC Surge Protection Device ( DC SPD) is the main protection system for all low voltage electrical installations. Installed in each electrical switchboard, it prevents the spread of over voltages in the electrical installations and protects the load.

Nominal Voltage (Un): The nominal voltage stands for the nominal voltage of the system to be protected

Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage (Uc): The maximum continuous operating voltage is the r.m.s value of the maximum voltage which may be connected to corresponding terminals of the Surge Protection Device (SPD) during operations.

Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage for PV System (Ucpv): The maximum continuous operating voltage for Photovoltaic (PC) system is the value of the maximum DC voltage which may be permanently applied to terminals of Surge Protection Device (SPD).

Voltage Protection Level (Up): The Voltage Protection Level is the maximum instantaneous value of the voltage at terminals of Surge Protection Device (SPD).

Nominal Discharge Current (In): The nominal discharge current is the peak value of the current that can be passed through Surge Protection Device (SPD) having a wave shape of 8/20 µs.

Maximum Discharge Current (Imax): The maximum discharge current is the peak value of the current which the device can safely discharge through the SPD having a wave shape of 8/20 µs.

What is voltage protection?

Voltage protection is an important electrical protection method that aims to ensure that equipment in the power system can operate safely when the voltage is abnormal. When the voltage in the power system is too high or too low, exceeding the range that the equipment can withstand, the voltage protection will trigger the protection mechanism and […]

Surge Protective Devices Overview

Surges may be caused by an indirect lightning strike but, the majority are caused by equipment being turned on or off within a facility. These surges damage components costing money to repair or replace as well as create unplanned downtime resulting in unfulfilled orders, missed deadlines, unreliable systems and/or dangerous situations. The GHX Surge Protective Device (SPD) Series for […]

Procedure to prevent risks of lightning strike

The system for protecting a building against the effects of lightning must include: =protection of structures against direct lightning strokes; =protection of electrical installations against direct and indirect lightning strokes. The basic principle for protection of an installation against the risk of lightning strikes is to prevent the disturbing energy from reaching sensitive equipment. To […]
